Romans 6:18. Part 1 Freed From Sin

Romans 6:

18 and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

 What is Freedom?

CHRISTIAN FREEDOM IS
THE LIBERATION FROM THE RULE OF SIN
AND THE VAST EXPERIENCE OF PRIVILEGE IN CHRIST JESUS, FOLLOWING HIS TRUTH, HIS WAY, AND HIS LIFE.  Rick Daigle

Colossians 1:13 (NASB95)
13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,

Acts 26:18 (NASB95)
18 to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.’

Ephesians 2:2 (NASB95)
2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.

FREEDOM MEANS:  [Please read this only when you can take the time to take in each of the bullet points.  Think about them]
  • released from one place, moved out from and into another environment; safe, restorative, refreshing, stimulating and vitalizing to every and all the good senses of man.
  • separation into a place of new discoveries, new and higher enjoyments which deeply convinces the soul of the true inferiority and substandard experience of the old state it once lived.
  • The old is now seen as a cheap substitute for life.  The pleasures are alluring but short-lived.  They only affect the baser nature of the human nature; his animal impulses of appetites; sexual, taste, visuals, sounds, intellect, affections.  This domain provided great euphoria and strong urges to return for more it has to offer.
  • removal
  • destruction of the union
  • no trust, no fellowship
  • break up; no trust, no joy
  • passage
  • guarded from
  • Freedom is immunity to be sent back.  Freedom is a permanent state that becomes a relationship as an adopted family member and royal heir to the benefits of kingdom blessings.
  • Freedom is having a legal release from the debt owed and now welcomed into a relationship of intimacy.
  • Freedom is a new realm, dimension, world.  Upon the new birth, we are transferred out from under the territory and rule of Sin and into another sphere or region where, though we have the freedom to sin, we increasingly desire to sever them for higher experiences of of spiritual pleasures, never before experienced and much higher and fuller than the fleshly ones in the old world we lived in.
  • The new world we now live in is Christ.  We live securely and permanently in Christ.  Moreover, Christ lives in us.  This new world of Christ is the root of all we now are.  Christ purposes to initiate His influence, His real Person, inside our spirit and soul.  He is Communicator.  He reveals His mind, heart, and will.  He instructs us what is right and good and to follow these things which are much like Him.
  • But even as important is His great purpose of providing us with the enjoyment of Himself. He is Water, Bread, New Wine.  For our guidance, He is the Way.  For clarification, He is the Truth.  For energy and experience, He is the Life.
  • In Him we have all we need.  He is the Provider of all we need.  He is to be trusted with all that happens to us.  He owes us nothing but Himself.
  • Our purpose is to no longer live for ourselves, to have things go our way or to satisfy our beliefs.  We are set upon a road of faith, to trust Him whether we understand or not, whether we agree or not, whether we want to or not.  But faith compels us to trust Him because deep inside us is a confidence He is perfectly trustworthy and has no reputation for error, slackness, or unfaithful.
  • Freedom offers us experiences with Christ which cannot be taught in any great way by any man.  It is a world of opportunity, a vast world of experience.  And the more we enjoy this new freedom of opportunity, the more we want to discover.

There is One Major Experience of Freedom

It is freedom from the slavery of sin and the old person we are in the nature of sin.  Freedom is removal from that power to a new kind of freedom in Christ.  It is freedom to become permeated and changed to be like Him.

There was never an old freedom; it was dominated by Sin.  There is only freedom in Christ that is more discovered and experienced than taught and learned.  Freedom in Christ is not the license to do what we want and live off forgiveness.  It is the Kingdom of experience from following Christ in every part of our life.  Our lifespan becomes a process of remaking that leads to a glorious new complete body and rewards based upon the quality of our walk with Christ.
