Romans 6:14-16 Don't Let Sin Rule You

Romans 6:14

14 For sin will have no mastery over you, because you are not under law but under grace.

15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Absolutely not!

Romans 6:16 New English Translation (NET Bible)

16 Do you not know that if you present yourselves[a] as obedient slaves,[b] you are slaves of the one you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or obedience resulting in righteousness?[c]

SIN

Gary Hill. The Discovery Bible
    • Believers experience loss every time they sin as it diminishes their unique glorification awarded by Christ at His return
  • Sin results in death [To productions of the soul:  confidence, hope, self-esteem, peace, motivation, patience, kindness, faith, hope, love, sensitivity to others].  This death leaves an immediate rotten "air" about our lives.  This death kills our ambitions, our attitudes, our performance ethic.  Everything after sin falls to a very low level.
  • We also lose in our eternal reward.  How much could have been rewarded us had we not chosen sin to do what Christ asked us.  Is that too much for what He sacrificed to us? Sin takes away what could have been and what  could have been added to our account.
  • For any sin we pay a price of losses, inwardly and outwardly.  The payment of sin is absolutely death.
SIN Meaning:  to deviate, to miss the mark

  • The mark is Jesus Christ and all His ways.  To miss the mark is to miss the mark or to deviate from Christ's plan for each particular situation of life in righteous expression in harmony with His heart and will for you.
  • To express verbally or in action, something that is contrary to the way of Christ.
  • Sin is missing the Way Christ would have us live, talk to people, treat people, our work performance, our spiritual duties to family and church, the testimony we bear to the public, and the personal disciplines of prayer and understanding God's Word.
Note the word "Missing":
Sin is missing the mark.  The word missing implies lacking, taken away, empty.  Sin always leaves us empty.  Our self-confidence, our faith, our patience with people and a multitude of other values of our human personality all are emptied, in some way.  We lost it for the price of sin.  What a trade off!
Do you feel empty, purposeless, a low self-esteem, a deteriorated motivation for good, a bruised heart, a tired feeling to do anything?
Is there something missing, a hole in your soul, a dryness, a blindness you cannot change?
It is probably a sin against God, against another that has not been resolved correctly.
Remember, it may be a act of sin or a failure of obedience.

Come to your heavenly Father and have a discussion.  If you are open and determined to know and willing to wait in prayer, He will send the Light to reveal the reason for your missing the mark of fulfillment.

“The Gospel shows people their wounds and bestows on them love. It shows them their bondage and supplies the hammer to knock away their chains. It shows them their nakedness and provides them the garments of purity. It shows them their poverty and pours into their lives the wealth of heaven. It shows them their sins and points them to the Savior.”
― Billy Graham

UNDER
Means to live under.  It implies a lifestyle of serving under.  Our lifestyle is to serve under righteousness not sin.

FACT:  Sin always withholds what we need.  Sin always rises as a tyrant  eager to give, demanding for payment, cruel to steal what life we have in us.
Sin can become a way of life.  We can easily turn away from God and enjoy a time  of  sensual living.  But according to the Bible, Jesus reminds us that sin always leads us to the pigpen.  What we eat there is actually in no comparison to the food at the home of the Father.
The problem is acting the harlot; being unfaithful to God by serving idols of sins in our heart.  The longer we remain in this lifestyle, the more insensitive we become to sin and lose our shame.
Today's society of many professing Christians exhibits a loss of shame.  Some Christians are not ashamed of what was once called sexual sin, a profane mouth, compromising dress, partaking in questionable activities.  Each generation loses a portion of shame--that is abnormal for a Christian.  Without shame we cannot see the way we take and the dangers that lie ahead.
Therefore the showers have been withheld, and there has been no spring rain. yet you had a harlot's forehead; You refused to be ashamed....12 "Were they ashamed because of the abomination they had done? They certainly were not ashamed, And they did not know how to blush; Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; At the time of their punishment they shall be brought down," Declares the LORD. (Jer 3:38:12)

"let it be known to you. Be ashamed and confounded for your ways, O house of Israel declares the Lord GOD!" (Ezek 16:61-63Ezek 36:31,32)

CAUTION:  Just because your conscience doesn't feel something is wrong or right, doesn't not mean it is so.  The job of the conscience is to act as transmitter from God what is right and wrong.  Today, multitudes have had their conscience desensitized.  Absence from the Spirit of God and the Word of God can lead to an insensitive conscience.
I also believe the reason is the forgotten neglected practice of confession of individual sins, the lack of thorough transparent prayer, and a conscious neglect of studying God's Word to understand His ways and to acquire His wisdom
